LaGuardia Red Hawks Women's Basketball returned to play with two back-to-back games after the holiday break, traveling to Bronx Community College on Tuesday night and facing Hostos Community College at home on Wednesday night.Â
Â
The Red Hawks struggled to get started on Tuesday night against the very competitive Bronx Community College Broncos (currently 9-4; 6-1 in CUNY). Scoring only 9 points in each quarter, LaGuardia went into halftime trailing the Bronx 18 - 46. The Red Hawks had more success on offense in the second half, putting up 16 points in the third quarter - their highest scoring period during the game - and 12 points in the fourth quarter. Notable contributions came from Sophomore Guard Aniyah Williams and Freshman Forward Yasmine "Akoni" Drysdale-Ash. Williams finished the game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Drysdale-Ash earned 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Â
Bronx Community College defended aggressively and capitalized on mistakes and forced errors. The Broncos scored 31 points on turnovers, 24 of those points coming from fast breaks. They also controlled the inside, knocking down 58 points in the paint, with 28 points coming from the 28 offensive rebounds they collected. In total, the Bronx snagged 60 rebounds, almost double LaGuardia's 32 rebounds. It was a disappointing 46-90 loss for the Red Hawks.
Â
Wednesday night brought more heartbreak for LaGuardia Community College. The Red Hawks suffered a 54-67 loss at home against Hostos Community College. LaGuardia showed improvement and character in the home defeat, and the team continues to build on their strengths.Â
Â
The Red Hawks look to snap a five-game losing streak that goes back to a close game away at Suffolk Community College on December 6th, 2025 which finished as a 43-48 loss for LaGuardia.Â
Â
The Red Hawks have plenty of games left in the season to rack up some wins - their current record is 3-8.
For their next game, LaGuardia hosts Bunker Hill Community College on Saturday, January 17th, 2026 in the gymnasium of the M building. Tip-off is at 4 pm.
