The LaGuardia Community College Lady Red Hawks opened up their season with a loss this past Saturday on the road against the Westchester Community College Vikings, 53-43
The Lady Red Hawks relied on returning veterans
Shemiah Sealey and
Olithia Roach to settle the team into their first game of the season. Fielding an almost entirely new roster, the Lady Red Hawks jumped off to a slow start and found themselves down 33-12 at halftime.
Returning Head Coach Shareika Parry and Assistant Coach Kimberley Coke strategized with the team at the half and they came out roaring. The Lady Red Hawks outscored the Westchester Vikings 23-11 in the third quarter, bringing the lead back down to 9 with a quarter to play. This comeback was led by Freshman
Moutiatou Djibring, who had 18 points and 15 rebounds, a dobule-double, in her first career game for the Lady Red Hawks.
Unfortunately, the team wasn't able to bring home the victory and the Westchester Vikings were able to hold onto the lead a midst the Lady Red Hawks furious comeback. The character and presence that the Lady Red Hawks played with in their opening game showed the potential that this team has moving further into the season.
The LaGuardia Community College Lady Red Hawks play their home opener on Tuesday, November 7th against BMCC.
