The LaGuardia Community College Lady Red Hawks fell to BMCC in their home opener, 79-74 in overtime.
The Lady Red Hawks came out cold to start the game. They quickly found themselves down 10 in the first quarter and 12 at halftime due to poor shooting and turnovers.
Coach Parry and Coach Coke once again used halftime to talk to their players and create a new game plan. The proof of this new game plan was in the pudding, as the Lady Red Hawks came out of halftime red hot, cutting the deficit to 3 by the end of the third quarter.
The comeback was a total team effort. Multiple players in the starting lineup recorded double-doubles, including
Olithia Roach (29 pts, 23 rbs),
Shemiah Sealey (13 pts, 10 stls),
Moutiatou Djibring (13 pts, 18 rbs), and
Ydel Jean-Louis (15 pts, 10 rbs). The team even received spectacular play off the bench from Jasmine Gutierrez, who had 4 assists.
Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to overcome the team's turnovers and lack of depth. The Lady Red Hawks turned the ball over 50 times over the course of the game.
Shemiah Sealey,
Moutiatou Djibring, and
Ydel Jean-Louis all fouled out in the overtime period, causing the Red Hawks to have to play 4v5 down the stretch in overtime.
The LaGuardia Community College Lady Red Hawks look to pick up their first win of the season at home on November 11th against Dutchess.
