Men's Basketball Returns from Break with 1 Win and 1 Loss

Red Hawks Optimistic About Second Half of the Season and Playoffs

LaGuardia Red Hawks Men's Basketball began the new year with a victory on the road against Bronx Community College Broncos. The Red Hawks took a commanding lead early on Tuesday night, and continued to dominate for the entirety of the first half, putting up 43 points and grabbing 31 rebounds. Chase McCray led the scoring with 15 points from 4 field goals and 6 free throws. LaGuardia went into the locker room at halftime with a 12 point lead over the Broncos; 43-31. 
 

Bronx Community College tried to get back in the game in the second half, but they couldn't stop the Red Hawks. Charlie Hall led LaGuardia in the second half with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block, and 2 steals. The game finished 82-61 in favor of the Red Hawks. LaGuardia dominated the paint, scoring 54 points from inside, 21 of those points coming after an offensive rebound. Point leaders for the Red Hawks were Charlie Hall and Chase McCray. Hall tallied 31 points scored and 14 rebounds collected. McCray earned 22 points and hauled in 7 rebounds for the team. 

 

The Red Hawks have defeated the Broncos twice this season.

 

The next evening, Wednesday, LaGuardia Community College played Hostos Community College at home in Queens. The Red Hawks were unable to overcome the Caimans and ultimately lost 56-70. This is the second time LaGuardia faced Hostos, and it is the second loss for the Red Hawks against the Caimans. 

 

The first week back from break ended with an uplifting story for Men's Basketball. Red Hawks Freshman Center, Djeri ben Sangare earned an Honorable Mention recognition from NJCAA Region XV for his play in December 2025. Sangare averaged 16 points, 14.5 rebounds, 7 blocks, and 3 assists per game in December. He leads the country in blocks and ranks 4th in rebounds. Sangare was awarded Player of the Month in November 2025 by NJCAA Region XV.

 

LaGuardia looks to get a win at home to start building some momentum in the second half of the season. Red Hawks Head Coach, Jarrett Lockhart feels optimistic, saying, "I'm looking forward to a successful 2026 as we prepare our guys for the second half of this year, and a push toward the post season…everyone is working extremely hard, and we are excited at the possibilities these next few weeks can bring."

 

The Red Hawks host the Ulster County Community College Senators on Tuesday night, January 13th, 2026. Tip-off is at 7 pm in the gymnasium of the M Building.
