The LaGuardia Red Hawks played the school's first ever volleyball match this past Friday against the Kingsborough Wave. The much anticipated matchup came after months of hard work from players, coaches, and the athletics department to bring the team together.
With the pressure of representing the school for the first time, there were questions about how the volleyball team would perform. The LaGuardia faithful need not worry, The Red Hawks came out firing on all cylinders in the first set of the match, taking a decisive 25-17 victory behind the play of
Kristjana Gurraj. The following set went even better for the Red Hawks. Teammate Daniela Acosta was dominant on the attack, picking up assists and kills left and right as the Red Hawks cruised to a set two victory, 25-15.
The third set saw LaGuardia falter. Nine service errors in the set gave Kingsborough a close victory of 25-21, forcing a fourth set and the Red Hawks first test of the season. How would they bounce back? They answered with their best set of the night. Four aces by
Ngawang Chozin led the way for the Red Hawks as they dominated the Waves, finishing the match off with a 25-10 victory.
A huge first win for the Red Hawks volleyball team and LaGuardia as a whole, and hopefully a glimpse of things to come.
Come cheer on your LaGuardia Red Hawks at their next home game against Queensborough on Tuesday, September 10th.
